       Our world is full of amazing wonders, both natural and artificial. And one of these fantastic artificial magic is what we call a magnet. A magnet is a material or object that produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field is invisible but is responsible for the most notable property of a magnet. 

       我们的世界充满了来自大自然和人类社会的令人惊叹的奇观。其中一种神奇的人工魔法就是我们所知道的磁铁。磁铁是能产生磁场的一种材料或物体。这个磁场是看不见的,但它是磁铁最显著的特性。

 

 

Introduction 简介

 

       Magnets are parts of our everyday lives, from home appliances, school stuff, gadgets, and even our little children's favorite toy they have played with since early childhood. We all have much experience with how magnets behave, we have seen many pictures of field lines around them, and we have learned this topic in school physics. And I remember one time, during class, when one of my students asked me why her pencil case was broken and didn't fit to close. The reason is the absence of a magnet on it.

       磁铁是我们日常生活的一部分,从家用电器、学校用品、小器具,甚至是我们小孩子从小就喜欢玩的玩具。我们对磁铁在生活中的运用都有经验,我们也介绍了很多磁铁周围的场线图片,同时在学校物理课上我们也学到了关于磁场的内容。我记得有一次,在课堂上,我的一个学生问我,为什么她的铅笔盒坏了,没法合上。原因是它上面缺少了一块磁铁。

Real-Life Scenario 

现实生活场景     

        When teaching magnetism, hands-on learning opportunities enable students to observe and engage with magnetism and magnetic fields principles. By experimenting with magnets, we want our students to understand the concept of magnetic poles and how magnets attract and repel. 

       在向学生教授磁性概念时,通过实践学习的机会使学生能够观察和参与磁性和磁场的原理。通过对磁铁的实验,我们希望我们的学生了解磁极的概念,以及磁铁如何相斥相吸的。

Aim 目标

This project aims at three life learnings: 

本次项目旨在实现三项学习内容及能力:

1. Increase their coordination skills by working with a team;

通过与团队的合作,提高他们的团队协作能力;

2. Learn a variety of problem-solving skills by doing their project;

通过完成他们的项目来学习如何解决各种问题;

3. Understand how some things work in our daily life.

了解我们日常生活中的一些有关磁力的现象是如何运作的。

 

 

Procedure 过程

       With this activity, students can expand exploration of the ways magnets push and pull with fun visual activities like making floating magnet columns. Students will create their triangular columns using simple materials like chopsticks and rubber in this activity. Students work with four team members and tie the chopsticks using the rubber band to triangular columns. 

       通过制作浮动磁铁柱的活动,学生们在有趣的视觉活动下,可以扩展探索磁铁推和拉的方式。在这个活动中,学生们使用筷子和橡胶等简单的材料来创建他们的三角形柱。以小组为单位,四名队员一起工作,用橡皮筋把筷子绑成三棱锥(正四面体)。

       It's pretty challenging for them, but the eagerness and desire to finish their columns makes Jay and Iris more patiently glad to guide them. Eventually, after completing the column, students can fix the three pieces flatted-round magnet on each side of the triangle and hang the other one-piece flatted-round magnet using the ribbon and serve as the pendulum of the column. Finally, the students can observe how magnets move through magnetic fields with their finished products.

       这对他们来说是相当有挑战性的,但是学生们对于完成这一立体几何图形的热情和渴望,感染着Jay老师和Iris老师更开心地,耐心地指导同学们。完成建模后,学生可以将三件完整的圆形磁铁固定在三棱锥底部的三面,并用丝带悬挂另一块完整的圆形磁铁,作为三棱锥的钟摆。最后,学生们可以观察磁场是如何影响磁铁相互运作的了。

我们知道了磁铁并不能吸引所有的物体。

We help each other to make the column. And it's not easy to make it. 

我们互相帮助完成了模型,但是要完成并不容易。

Group 4

We learn that a magnet has the power to attract some things.

我们知道了磁铁可以吸引一些物品。

We hope to use the magnet in many experiments in the  future.  

我们希望今后能在实验中更多地用到磁铁。
